Investigation of Optical Properties of Tissues in vivo for the purposes of PDT Dosimetry

Goals
- Recover concentration of PDT photosensitizer in tissues
- Study diffuse propagation of the light in tissues using multispectral spectrometer
Hardware and Data Acquisition
- System integration of a custom multispectral imaging spectrometer
- Custom fiberoptics probes for light delivery and signal registartion
- Custom LabVEIW software suite for system control and data acquisition
Light Propagation Modeling
- Propagation of laser light in tssues was modeled using diffusion approximation
- Simulated annealing - based data analysis allowed reconstruction of tissue absorption and scattering coefficients
Results
- For the first time, localized concentration of photosensitizer drug in internal organs was optically measured in vivo (canine)
- Oxygen saturation for individual organs was estimated
- PDT dosimetry was improved as a result
